If they are struggling then don't take it out on them, make sure that you speak to them as soon as possible so that you can help them out. But then again, it's up to you what you want to say.A great place to start is by having the student bring your flyer to your office and looking through it to see what you think of it. Just by seeing what you thought of it you will be able to come up with a better flyer. It's not a bad idea to ask a few of your students to go back and check it out with you and let you know what they think.On the other hand, if you do not have time to go through it all, but you do have a suggestion of a flyer you want to print it up, then you can always go through it and start a section on each subject. Should Parents Observe During Voice Lessons Suzy S. Should you sit in on your kids singing lessons? Here,  Hayward, CA teacher  Molly R.  tackles the commonly asked question When parents sign their child up for voice lessons, naturally they want to be sure of a few key things: Does the teacher know what he or she is doing? Is the teacher a good match for my child? Is my child making progress? One of the easiest ways to be sure of all this is to observe a lesson and see for yourself, of course. However, this may not always be the best route for a few reasons although some situations are certainly different. The following is what I have found works best for me in my voice studio. At the First Lesson I always welcome parents to sit in on their childs first singing lesson! This way they know what I am about and what they are paying for. It’s tough to start singing for someone that you have never met, and having Mom or Dad there can be a bonus. For some kids, singing comes naturally at lesson number one, though, and they may prefer their parent NOT be there! I let the parent and child decide among themselves in this instance. After the First Lesson Going forward, I prefer students attend lessons on their own. The reason why many voice teachers prefer to work one on one with students is because it’s likely the young student will not open up to the teacher with two adults in the room. That can be stressful and take the fun out of singing! Not only that, some parents have the tendency to play armchair critic when it is solely the teacher’s job to offer vocal advice during lesson time. It is crucial that parents be respectful of the teacher and do not overstep their boundaries. Naturally there are unique situations to consider. For example, I work with some very young (six and under) students, and having a parent in the room is very helpful to get them to focus and also to encourage them. There may also be times when a young student has physical or mental limitations, and having a parent there is necessary. My Studio Policies I’ve found that it’s good to retain some flexibility, but to remain firm about general studio policies, and this certainly includes who can attend voice lessons. As long as you remain open and consistent with communication, I have found that parents are fine with my arrangement. They can measure their kids singing progress in other ways (practice time, performances, etc.). To find the best teacher for your child, you may need to sit in on a few voice lessons… and ask a lot of questions! As Leila Hudson form the University of Arizona points out in one of her studies, the term “Mediterranean” is used in western countries more as a marketing tool than anything else.However, because of the region’s shared history in all aspects of war, love, politics and culture, we can start understanding the Mediterranean diet by looking at the generalization made by a study done at the University of Sydney, which states that typically, “the Mediterranean diet is less processed compared to western diets as it is based on whole foods.”Looking at the history of religion in the region alone, there are certain foods and dishes that have been favoured over time simply because they were allowed in many rites of abstinence, fasting or penitence including Lent, Shabbat or Ramadan.Focusing on prehistoric farming,   wheat was a staple in the Mediterranean region â€" spanning from countries like Morocco and Italy to Egypt and Syria. In fact, because of shared agricultural history, many foods in the Mediterranean basin region also share staple dishes like flatbread, pine nuts, and skewered meat. In addition, whether you’re look ing at Lebanese, Turkish or Yemeni cuisine, the Middle Eastern diet favours using olive oil over other types of fats.The groundwork for this famous cuisine can also be seen to have been laid out all throughout ancient history, from the Phoenicians and Romans to the Andalusians of Spain and the Byzantine empire. It can be generalized, however, in the Ottoman Empire, which brought a diverse group of people under one rule: Kurdish, Greek, Turkish, Arab, Armenian peoples as well as those in the Balkan region and the Sephardic Jews that had been driven out by the Spanish Inquisition.During Ottoman rule, those who definitely didn’t have the globalized palate we have today began to eat things like Persian rice, Arabic fava beans, and Armenian chickpea dishes for the first time. Goodbye, Steve Jobs As any of my students know, Ive always been a fan of Apple and Steve Jobs. Ive been meaning to write something here all week about Jobs death this week, but Ive been traveling and havent had the time.Jobs was always an inspirational person for me. The technology he developed pushed the boundaries of what technology could do in imaginative ways. Many people say that he made consumer electronics into an art form. A quote below from the New York Times illustrates just how he did this:He put much stock in the notion of “taste,” a word he used frequently. It was a sensibility that shone in products that looked like works of art and delighted users. Great products, he said, were a triumph of taste, of “trying to expose yourself to the best things humans have done and then trying to bring those things into what you are doing.”Several of my students have read this in class with me over the last week, and have had trouble understanding it, so Ill give some explanation here.It starts w ith a phrasal verb, to put stock into (something/someone). This means to value or believe in something, or someone, in this case, the idea (notion) of taste. Taste in this context means, essentially, the ability to know what is art. So, for this sentence you could say that Jobs valued the ability to recognize art.This value, according to the next sentence was something that shone in his products. Shone is the past simple for shine, meaning to emit light, like a light bulb or the sun. So, the value that Jobs placed on art could be seen in his products.The next sentence quotes Jobs, saying that the great products were the result of exposing yourself to the best things humans have done, i.e. experiencing the best artwork, music, literature, etc. and then using the great things about humankinds best work as inspiration for your own work.To rephrase one more time, Steve Jobs wasnt looking at other computers, cellphones or tablet PCs for inspiration, he was looking paintings by Picasso, l istening to The Beatles, or reading Tolstoy, and this great artwork was what ultimately influenced how he created his products.Its a sensibility that makes me aspire to do more with my own work, and we hope that ideas we are developing now will excite our students in the coming months Below youll find a video that again illustrates this idea Jobs had of art. Flavanoids have anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties and will help to strengthen the blood vessels under the skin and stabilize your elastin and collagen production. This will help minimize the appearance of your pores and help keep your skin looking firm. Asorbic Acid (Vitamin C)  can be found in oranges, papayas, broccoli, kale, and brussel sprouts. Vitamin C is the key to collagen production which gives skin its firmness and strength. It also helps create scar tissue and is the key to helping the skin repair itself. Vitamin C may help reduce sunburn and the appearance of dark spots. Vitamin E can be found in nuts, eggs, leafy green vegetables and whole grains, and is the most powerful anti-oxidant of them all! Vitamin E is essential to healthy skin, but the body cannot produce on its own, which is why including it as a key component of your diet is important. Try incorporating these anti-oxidants into your daily diet and watch as your skin transforms from dull and pasty to healthy and glowing.
